Gabrielle Meyerowitz’s work is process-based , site-derived , site-specific & interactive . It includes painting , poetry , found-objects , new-media , performance & installation .

She looks towards the root of things and experience to find continuity within the invisible hidden surface-biases of the everyday . She seeks ways to uncover these unconscious biases , exposing their light to weave connection between the seemingly disparate , labelled , or “foreign” . This search for extracting an archetypal timeless mythology is what drives her art . Currently , she is focusing in what lies beyond narrative story [ energetic imprints ] ; this reflected in her latest body of work .

She studied at Pratt Institute and Art Students League in New York , & École Jacques Lecoq , in Paris . She was an apprentice to two multi-disciplinary artists ; the first in the US , the second in France & across Europe . Her education is a patchwork of nontraditional & traditional schooling and this directly feeds into the execution of her oeuvres . She’s a life-long yogi and this practice is integral to her pieces .

From 2012-2023 , her home-studio became an antique suitcase found on the streets of Paris , dubbed her “portable-studio” . This allowed her to live in many places across many bodies of water , while remaining “home” . Inside her Valise , she keeps an old French copy of Plato’s Symposium ( Plato’s dialogue on Love ) ; a pivotal text and foundational principle in her work. Besides this , she traveled empty-handed , and used local found-materials as both canvas and pigments .

Today , her pigments are still made into traditional tempera & poems typically accompany the works in some manner ( such as video , audio , handwritten on large fabric , etc ) .

Much of Gabrielle’s work is scattered across the world and these experiences and exchanges inform and reinforce the underlying drive in all her work : to highlight the connectivity between us despite societal/cultural differences , prejudices , labels , & personal story .
