a contemporary alphabet + interchangeable love-letter

Made of 26 panels , this piece is an interactive and interchangeable embryonic love letter ; each individual panel represents an abstracted letter in the alphabet . Each panel was created using encaustic , cement , found-material , pigment and oil and mounted on magnetic metal composite with coinciding magnets on the wall . White gloves are set-aside for participants to interact with the letters and a Polaroid “photo-booth” is set up in front of the piece as well so that these individuals can document their personal anonymous love letter . Together , these Polaroid images turn into a 26 page art book of one love story .

This piece is a response to the recent U.S. election , Brexit and the wider global trend towards fascism . Post-election , I found that certain underlying issues that have been brewing for the last decade had finally escalated to the point where it had become obligation to reply . The problems we face are no longer abstract nor isolated issues meant for the political stage . Instead , they are our realities or “brave new world” infecting the entirety of our everydays and planet . Like a red thread interwoven amidst the fabric of routine ; the salt of this shift is palpable and I find it expressed through numerous hate crimes , fear mongering , and natural disasters that are becoming more and more prevalent . At the same time , another counter movement is brewing and stalling the complete advancement of these trends . This has been created most recently through regular protests in all their forms , France + Austria’s political response towards this recent trend , etc . Like good medicine , these “methods of coping” sedate the nervous system , but only leave an echo like a lullaby in my ears . For me , words are like maps .

26 anonymous love letters is a contemporary alphabet that through interaction becomes a collaborative global love-story and creates a map . A percentage of the final sale of this piece goes to a chosen organisation that addresses some of these issues . Through donation , this map begins to build a bridge .
