[ ENERGETICENTANGLEMENTS ]

a series of 7 triptych paintings , completed 2023 ; in a residency at Footsbarn Theatre-la Chaussée , in France.

Energetic Entanglements is a series about moving beyond personal myth & story into the energetic fields housed within the body ; the root , origin , and genesis of all stories & interpersonal human experiences - negative and positive . Each painting focuses on 1 of the 7 energy centres of the body and how the stories we carry change according to the openness or contraction of these centres ; the colours correlating to each of them

I did not want to use the word chakra for this series - as there is too much stigma around it & so chose Entanglement - the double-entendre of this referencing quantum-entanglement or Einstein’s spooky-action-at-a-distance theory : a phenomenon where two particles are entangled and the state of one is tied to the state of the other - even at a distance .

Applied to a “macrocosmic” lens , means interpersonal intraactions with others all begin at an energetic level by weaving in and out and through each centre ; our created identities , ideaologies , memories , experiences , and stories — both painful and uplifting - stem from this .

Observing the individual energy centres at play from this neutral Witness Mind/Observer Eye standpoint - without the human attachment to the binding chains of story and myth - is the key that unlocks freedom of authentic whole-minded being in balance with others & self & creating new stories that uplift— rather than imprison .

the expression of each energy centre was found through yoga/meditation/ breathing mudra practices before/after painting . The inner eye re-membering and capturing the movement of each centre — rather than traditional photo referencing or use of a model

The left panel is representation of the energy centre when contracted - expressed through the human bodily form . The right panel is the expanded or open version of the centre . The middle panel is the abstracted version of both & erases/extracts the figure/body - merging both opposing sides .

In the final installation , this middle panel includes a projected video onto its' surface . The videos are of me wearing Jacques Lecoq’s Neutral Mask and moving in and out of the contraction and expansion of each energetic centre .

All pieces are created on queen-size antique French linen bedsheets sourced from a local brocante

All pigments are found from residency location & turned into tempera . Material includes : ash , sand , charcoal , etc .

[ NOTE // This project was exhibited this Fall 2024 at La Chausée , and is now continuing its’ journey to a few European cities before crossing the ocean to NYC- more info coming soon ]
